Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University on Wednesday morning. Apart from Bihar Chief Minister, Governor, representatives of 17 countries were present.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Bihar. This is his first visit to Bihar after being sworn in for the third term as Prime Minister. At the inauguration ceremony of Nalanda, Modi said that the tradition of India is connected with this university. The honor, identity and values of the country are associated with this university. He also said that he felt lucky to be able to attend this university within a few days of his swearing-in.
Visiting Nalanda, Modi said, “I am very happy to be able to come to this university within 10 days of taking oath as Prime Minister for the third time. Nalanda is not a name, it is an identity. Fire can burn books. But knowledge cannot destroy.”
Modi visited the ancient ruins of the university before inaugurating the new campus at Nalanda. In 2016, the ruins were named ‘Heritage’ by the United Nations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Nalanda Acharya Arvind Panagariya were present with Modi at the inauguration of the new campus. Apart from this, representatives of 17 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Cambodia attended the event.
The new campus at Nalanda has two blocks. There are 40 classrooms in both the fields. A total of 1900 students are accommodated in this campus. Apart from this, there are two auditoriums with 300 seats each. A maximum of 500 students can stay in the hostel of this campus in Nalanda. The central government has spent 1700 crore rupees for the construction of the new campus.

After inaugurating the newly constructed campus of Nalanda University, Modi said, ‘Very happy to come to Nalanda, Bihar after 10 days of taking charge as Prime Minister for the third term. Nalanda is not just a name. Rather, Nalanda is a place of recognition and respect. Nalanda chants education, inculcates values. Fire can burn books but cannot destroy knowledge.’ He also said, ‘The country’s tradition in education is Nalanda. Varmanaya has contributed significantly to the exchange of cultures. The renaissance of Nalanda took place near the ancient ruins. The newly constructed campus will showcase India’s power to the world.’
